The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy®
The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® (ATMAT) are gentle and holistic, supporting both body and mind. They are founded upon ancient Maya healing techniques from Central America, brought together by the inspirational woman Dr Rosita Arvigo following her ten year apprenticeship with the last great Shaman of Belize, Don Elijio Panti, her work with traditional midwives, and her own lifelong career as a naprapathic physician.
The techniques combine gentle, relaxing massage and manipulation of the abdomen, back and pelvis with other supportive natural therapies including plant based medicines and nutrition (you can find out more about these supportive therapies below). The techniques improve the health and function of your reproductive, digestive and eliminative organs and are particularly useful for natural fertility, gynaecological problems and digestive troubles.
The massage itself is gentle and non-invasive and works by optimising the position of your digestive and pelvic organs (including uterus, ovaries and bladder) by relaxing and toning internal structures. It also promotes the flow of blood and lymph to and from your organs, and nervous innovation of your organs.

Your initial Arvigo® Therapy consultation lasts two hours. During this time I will take a full case history and discuss supporting therapies with you. The bodywork itself lasts for approximately one hour and includes a relaxing, gentle massage of your abdomen, back, sacrum and hips followed by guidance on how to complete the massage for your self. Subsequent consultations are either 90 minutes or one hour depending upon your needs.
“Often a condition such as endometriosis is described by medical professionals as an ‘incurable’ disease which can’t be helped but my treatment has proved that things can get better and that is thanks to Victoria!”

“It’s taken me until now to feel that I have processed last week! I really felt that you listened to me and held the space so well, leaving me feeling completely holistically cared for; thank you. I felt so connected to my body afterwards and have tried the massage a couple of times since which is very relaxing, thank you for the lovely oil.”
Plants have been used as medicine throughout the world, throughout history. Medicinal plants contain organic compounds that have a therapeutic affinity with your body. These compounds help to balance your hormones and help your body to regulate, protect and heal it self.
Plant medicines come in the form of tinctures, capsules and powders, dried herb teas, creams, suppositories and pessaries, and infused and essential oils. I create bespoke prescriptions and I also have a range of women’s products that are available to purchase without an in-person consultation – find out more or book a Herbal Medicine only consultation.
Foods contain vital nutrients for optimal function of your body. Nutrient deficiencies can lead to long-term chronic conditions. As part of your consultation I will assess your diet and support you with developing a plan for optimal nutrition through foods and supplements.
Vaginal steaming is an age-old traditional herbal medicine practice. Steaming the delicate and porous tissue of the vagina helps to soften, moisten and open this area, promoting blood flow and circulation to the vagina, uterus and ovaries. It also helps to lubricate and relax the vagina before intercourse and before trans-vaginal procedures.
Hormonal and chemical imbalances in the body can sometimes cause vaginal infections. Sitz baths (herbal teas – made from anti-microbial plants such as oregano and calendula) help to soothe inflamed skin and clear the infection.
Castor Oil Packs
Castor oil helps to break down scar tissue and internal adhesions by encouraging the local activity of your immune system.
